HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
The Municipality of Asuncion became a regular municipal district in February 23, 1921 by virtue of Executive Order No. 8,signed by Governor General Francis Burton F. Harrison, duly endorsed by the Provincial Board of Davao under Resolution Number 297 and 393. two (2) district were created: the District of Camansa and the District of Saug.Each District consists of five (5) barrios: District of Camansa District of Saug

*Camansa * Limbaan
* Buan * Canatan
*Kilagding * Sagayen and
* Madgao * Napungas
In the early part of 1948, Executive Order No. 156 promulgated by then President Elpedio Quirino, made Asuncion a regular town and originally named the Municipality of Leyte. On September of the same year, Executive Order No. 173 was issued changing its name to Municipality of Saug. Republic Act. No. 1675 was passed in Congress on June 20,1957 renaming the Municipality of Saug to Municipality of Asuncion in honor of its Patron Saint Nuestra Señora dela Asuncion. The early inhabitants of the Municipality were the Aetas and Mandayas. In the early 1930’s, migrant from Leyte, Bohol, Cebu and other parts of the Visayas setted in the town and lived peacefully with the early settlers. The Municipality is composed of 26 barangay with the total land area 41, 152 hectares, on March 15, 2004 President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo signed inot law Republic Act No. 9265 which created from the Minicipality of Asuncion. At present, the Municipality of Asuncion has twenty (20) barangays with a total land area of 30, 422 representing 8.3% of the total land area of the Provincial of Davao del Norte. Different Leader have man aged the Municipality From 1921 to present.
The present leadership of the Municipality of Asuncion envision a better quality of life for its constituents through socio- economic programs. Outlining the directions and focus of the Municipality towards the 21st century will certainly hasten the attainment of this vision.
