History of New Corella Police Station

             New Corella Police Station was established after Presidential Proclamation issued in 1964 by President Diosdado Macapagal creating barrio New Corella as town from Mother town of Asuncion Municipality. Appointed first Municipal Mayor was Engr. Prospero Amatong, and designated P/Sgt. Federico Chicote of Asuncion Police Station as first acting Chief of Police along with five Policemen who were both issued short firearms, they were holding office along with different LGU head of offices at the rented residential house in barrio Poblacion. Sad to note that in 1965 (11) months after its creation, the Supreme Court declared that the creation of New Corella town was illegal and unconstitutional, Hence, New Corella Police Station was again part of Asuncion Police Department. In 1966, the Congress approved the passed bill creating again New Corella as a town. This was enacted on June 18,1967 through R.A. 4747, thus making the rebirth of New Corella as full pledged municipality. After the election was held, P/Lt. Efepanio R. Montania was appointed by the Municipal Mayor as Chief of Police of the town along with New Recruited (6) Policemen. They were holding office together with different LGU Head of Offices at the previous rented residential house in the Poblacion. Limited short firearms and (2) Thompson sub-machine gun were issued to the Police force with one (1) Kawasaki C100 as service vehicle. They hardly served the people around the municipality ,but managed to maintain peace and order of the estimated 7,000 population with nineteen (19) regular barrios. In 1972, the municipal building was constructed in the Poblacion wherein the local chief executive gave space for the Police force consisting of two rooms. On May 1974, Chief of Police P/Lt. Montania died due of a sickness. P/Cpl Jovencio Hernandez assumed the leadership as acting Chief of Police thru the order issued by the Municipal Mayor. On June 1975, P/Cpl. Casiano Hibaya Sr. was appointed by the Municipal Mayor as Chief of Police of the town. Numbers of Policemen were added to a strength of (14) personnel with more firepower issued such as M16, BAR, Garand and Carbine rifles to combat the growing insurgency problems of the CPP/NPA. In 1978, P/Sgt. Ildefonso Lendio replaced COP Hibaya who was then re-classified to P/Sgt. PFC Anecito Labargan Sr. was also designated as OIC Chief of Police and during his incumbency, New Corella Police Station was chosen by the Provincial Command as Best Rural Police Station of the year due of a series of major accomplishment done by Patrolman Virgilio T Lacia and his men in fighting against the groups of armed NPA in the Brgys. Several high powered firearms were taken from the enemies during the encounter happened such as (1) FAL, M16, Garands, Carbines, Shotguns, .45 caliber pistols, Cal. 38, thousand of ammos. and subversives documents. As a results Patrolman Lacia was chosen as most outstanding Policeman of Davao Norte PC/INP Command. Outstanding Policeman of Region XI, and one of the Ten Most Outstanding Policemen of the Philippines (TOPP) which was awarded by the Philippine Jaycees in Manila year 1980. In 1981, designation of PFC Labargan Sr. was terminated, and replaced by the former station commander P/Sgt. Lendio. One year after, assignment of P/Sgt. Lendio he was replaced by P/Sgt. Romeo Palar until year 1982. During his term New Corella Police Station was again adjudged as most outstanding Rural Police Station of Davao Norte. After his relieved he was replaced by P/Sgt. Vidal Salinas. P/Lt. Ignacio Kabingue took-over as Station Commander once again during his leadership New Corella Police Station was Awarded as Most Outstanding Rural Police Station of the year and a series of accomplishment against the CPP/NPA and criminals were among the factors of judgement by the Provincial command. On the middle of 1986, P/Lt. Casiano Hibaya Sr. who promoted from his old rank backed as COP. until he was transferred to Provincial Hqs. He was replaced by P/Lt. Hernanito Perez until 1990. P/Lt.Florentino Salvoro took-over until 1991, P/Lt. Mariano Beltran replaced him up to year 1992 and Newly promoted P/Lt. Vidal Salinas replaced him until 1997. P/CInsp. Bonifacio Labor Jr, became the COP until June 1998 before his retirement and P/Insp. Michael Tulen was also assigned as COP wherein he was judged as Best Junior Police Officer of the year in PROXI. He was relieved temporarily because of his schooling at Camp Crame, Quezon City he was replaced by P/Insp. Joel C Mencidor and backed as Chief of Police until Sept. 2000. Newly promoted Officer P/Insp.Virgilio T Lacia a native of New Corella became the Chief of Police, he wants to enter into the political service and became a Municipal Councilor of the town, last Feb 2001, PCI Jose L Catimbang replaced him until October 2002. Then the newly promoted PInsp Roman L Subingsubing from Compostela, Comval Prov. was also assigned on that same year and designated as Officer In Charge until P/SINSP Lito E Patay became the Chief of Police. On November 4, 2003, PInsp Angelo A Arce Jr. was designated as Officer In-Charge after PSI Patay went on schooling. On June 20, 2004, New Corella Police Station was attacked by the CPP/NPA headed by Rolando Obosa, Alias Fiel, Rolando Genelsa Alias Lando, Alias Alex and Alias Mags which resulted to the death of SPO4 Jaime B Getizo and wounding of PO1 Danilo R Almonte. Several firearms were also carted away by the attackers. They destroyed the armory and lockers of individual PNP personnel and caused damaged to the Municipal hall building. On July 2004, PInsp Eleuterio Hernando assumed duty as Officer In-Charge replacing PSI Patay. On the year 2005, PInsp Virgilio A Apresa assumed duty as Chief of Police and on the following year 2006, he was replaced by PSI Mario A Fontanilla. On the year 2007, PSI Dioscoro Q Polestico, assumed duty as Chief of Police, and during his term the police station was awarded as Best Police Station, of Davao del Norte. On that same year PInsp San Nicolas S Palado assumed duty as Officer In-Charge after the former underwent schooling at RTS 11. At present New Corella Police Station has an Officer In-Charge in the person of PSI Dioscoro Q Polestico after he was re-instated in the office after his schooling at RTS 11. PSI Polestico became an officer last May 23, 2002 and was already assigned in several towns and cities within Region 11.
